An author, speaker, consultant and media host, Carmen is the CEO and Founder of Malecon Productions. She is the former co-creator and host of the only national, daily personal finance television show, On the Money, on CNBC. A former editor at MONEY magazine, she spent nearly a decade as a national advice columnist read by millions, most recently at Good Housekeeping, and previously at Glamour, Latina, Essence, and Men’s Health. She has also contributed to The New York Times and O, the Oprah magazine, and is the author of two best-selling financial advice books, her most recent, The Real Cost of Living.
An entrepreneur and educator, Carmen was the co-founder and former President of an all-female financial planning firm, as well as an Assistant Industry Professor of behavioral economics at NYU Polytech’s graduate school of Finance & Risk Engineering.
On-air, Carmen can be seen frequently as a regular contributor on MSNBC and was previously a financial contributor to CBS This Morning, CNN, and ABC’s The View. A long-time expert on The Today Show on NBC, she was also an expert lifeline on ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and has appeared on hundreds of other broadcast outlets, radio and podcasts, and has keynoted and moderated dozens of events around the country. Carmen has a masters’ degree in psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College and serves on the boards of the NY Urban League and VIVA Broadway, as well as the advisory boards of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and Dress for Success.
A former board member of the Council of Urban Professionals, Carmen has been a repeated guest of the White House as a member of President Obama’s ‘Business Forward’ initiative to further African-American, Latino and Asian business owners.
